Meet the Author
Brian B. Makaruk’s lifelong connection to the natural world began on a sprawling mixed farming operation in Alberta, Canada, where his upbringing sparked an enduring passion for forests and the outdoors. Rooted in this early love for nature, Brian pursued a unique path that seamlessly bridges environmental science and impactful storytelling. He holds a Diploma in Forestry and Environment alongside a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, uniquely positioning him as both an authentic environmental steward and a skilled educator.
Before channelling his experiences into children’s literature, Brian spent several years working directly in the field as a Forest Technician. He later transitioned into the classroom, sharing his practical, hands-on knowledge as an instructor for a college Forestry Program. It was during these years of professional conservation and teaching that Brian recognized a critical need: the importance of engaging young minds early on about the challenges facing our global ecosystems.
Driven by a deeply personal and educational mission, Brian created the Mysteries of the Forest series to transform vital conservation lessons into unforgettable bedtime stories and classroom adventures. By blending real-world wildlife facts with imaginative, heroic escapades, his books give parents and teachers a powerful tool to foster public awareness and teach sustainable practices.
